Sleeping Beauty

I am so happy to share with your that Ruby Tsege  has now slept through the night for one week straight!!  We have been doing a consistent night time ritual/routine and it seems to be working.
We are so proud of her... this is huge!   As many of you know Ruby was not sleeping well  when we first got home. We knew this was normal as her whole world was new. She would sleep for about an hour at a time sleeping approx. 3 hrs a night and wouldn't take naps. Michael and I were ZOMBIES!!! Ruby was full of energy and seemed to be fine during the days. At night she would only fall asleep in our arms but would wake up the second we put her in her crib or next to us in bed.  After three weeks of nobody but Scout in the house sleeping we decided to seek help.  We ended up hiring a sleep specialist.... sounds so "California" right!   We wanted to find someone who was gentle and had worked with adopted families before. Our  friend and neighbor recommended a woman who she thought would be great for our situation.  The sleep specialist spent about 2 hours with our family and gave us a plan. She was WONDERFUL and worth every penny!
In Ethiopia Ruby was used to sleeping in a crib with another baby in a room full of babies. We would often see pics of her and her crib mate holding hands  when they slept ( so sweet).  We are so thankful Ruby  is feeling so loved, secure, and at peace that she can finally sleep through the night.  She wakes up laughing in the morning, ready for a new day, new adventure, and all the love in the world.

  4. WOW! I am so curious to hear what this woman suggested. We were doing well but now Abraham wakes up at 4 am ready to start his day. He never really goes back to sleep and sits in his crib dosing and then giving shout outs. We are a bit sleep deprived in this house. Lets pick a time in Feb if you think Ruby is up for meeting the kiddos(again).

  5. Just found your blog through Laura. I'm also an IAG-er from last summer.

Just wanted to say hello, and comment on that cute pumpkin butt sticking straight up in the air. Charlie sleeps like that too :-) Sooo cute.
